I am always amazed (or saddened) that some of the best elements of the Christian faith are learned by the secular world and popularized. The church misses opportunities. See... Love, Community, Giving, Volunteerism, Faith, and Servant Leadership. Do a quick study of a man by the name of Robert Greenleaf. He worked for AT&T and developed a theory for leadership that included a leader as servant. This "new" approach came out in the 1970's. Why does leadership seem to be such a difficult element for people to associate with the church? Shouldn't some of our best leaders be in the church?

Wow, I guess I should have read this before posting my comment on your older post. Yes I think some of our best leaders should be in the church and come from the church. I think you could make an argument why our government is so twisted is because we don't have any servant leaders. I think it will take a generation of Servant leaders to really make an impact in the generation to come because it is a Servant leader that truly inspires. Unfortunately even in churches many people primary goal in leadership is to be in a place of power. When often times the people who need to be in church leadership are those who would not have any desire to be in leadership.

ReplyDeleteI love that last phrase. The irony is in the desire isn't it. I totally agree with you that a person who will truly "serve" in leadership is someone who doesn't necessaily desire to be a leader. Great thought!!
